Today's Update

Madeline has turned a corner, i firmly believe.
We spoke to the doctor yesterday and she confirmed it.
The past two weeks were rough on us because she did not seem
satisfied after her meals and would not sleep unless
she was in constant motion. It was taking hours to get her
down at night and napping was out of the question
unless it was on a walk or drive.
She was in a growth spurt and could not manage to soothe
herself.

The past few days there is a new baby in the house.
Nursing is going much better again, she seems full
and is sleeping soundly. She is even sleeping in her
crib at night! And when she wakes up she has been able to
calm herself and fall back to sleep.

Sunday night she slept for 8 hours
and last night 5 hours.
believe it or not...5 hours is considered
"sleeping through the night"!
yeah right.

but her days are happier, she is calm and smiley again all day
just sitting in her carseat or in our arms or her swing etc.
We took a walk and she just gurgled and smiled and laughed
all around the neighborhood. She has such a great personality.

We even took a grocery trip and i put her in the baby bjorn and
shopped for an hour or so! She was a happy bouncing baby and fell
asleep towards the end, and i put her in the carseat and drove home with
no problems. she slept while i unpacked the car and read the mail.

she is swinging now, having spent an hour playing with mommy this morning
she was practicing rolling over....(okay falling over). She props
herself up on her hands and leans her head all the way over to the side until
she slowly rolls on her side, then she rolls on her side and laughs!
She may not be really rolling over yet but i think its close. She is not
able to hold her head up for a long time but it is almost 90 degrees
off the floor for a few seconds and she can suspend her head at 45 degrees
for a lot longer.

She is making strides!

Sorry no pictures yet today. but i wanted to let you know how well she is doing
and all that she is learning this week. She is a very happy baby and she
is six weeks old today! Not a newborn anymore. She is almost 11 pounds!

Halloween Night

We had tons of trick or treaters who ate most of the 30 dollars of candy we bought!
Don projected halloween images on the wall so they could see them from Idaho!
The best part was seeing our friend Ella the ladybug.

Happy first halloween Maddie the sweet pea.
You are already smiling and laughing, lifting your
head up and trying to hold it there and making all sorts of sounds:
Ha and Hay and ah and heh. You are reaching out with your hands and
learning what it feels like to touch things and kick things.
You have learned so much in just 5 weeks and we are so excited to
see what is next!

OK so she was a sleepy sweet pea and i look a mess
but she is still so cute, right!?

Trick or Treat?

TREAT!!

compliments of sugar grandaddy ric
who wanted to make sure that Madeline bought herself
a "big bag of candy" and sent us a check to ensure it!
I do believe she is "double fisting"
Maybe grandpa will also have to send us a check for her first
dentist appointment too... :)

This weekend

Chris and Tanya came to visit.
We talked baby stuff all night...cuz they are 19 weeks
pregnant! It was fun being the pros and not the newbies
for a change.
CONGRATS MOMMY-TO-BE

all tuckered-out. (does baby have a headache?)

Mommy lays down with Madeline. Her new favorite way to fall asleep
is with mommy's face pressed up against her.

Go fish! Thank you Ellie for the fish swing. We love it and every day or so
mommy gets to take a shower because you enjoy your going fishin' time :)

Hanging with the baby girl

Just posting a couple of pics from the past 2 days.
I know many of Madeline's adoring fans look every day with
anticipation of a new photo so I am trying to keep up
on the blog.

Madeline sleeps with her hands gently placed together
what a little lady.
(except she usually flails them and scratches her face if she isnt
swaddled so mommy squished her into her boppy and she slept
peacefully next to her for about an hour!

Mommy demanded to be in a pic since she is usually behind the camera.
Smile...through those glazed over, sleep deprived eyes :)

Doesnt she look so pretty with her eyes wide open?

Cousins!

Madeline and I went over to see Chantal and Eva for a playdate.
Okay...a breastfeeding and diaper changing date.
But the moms had fun sharing stories of sleeping husbands
and babies who don't stop eating!

Chantal and I got to share our pregnancy together and even though
i was due a few weeks before, it took us so long that they were
practically born on the same day! Eva is 2 days younger than Maddie.
It is so nice to have family nearby... even though Chantal and I think
we are something like 4th cousins!

Madeline is the one in lavendar. Thats Eva in pink

No more sleepy baby

So, when she was born i told everyone that she was a sleepy baby but it was a bummer to have to wake her up to eat. so many folks said i was so lucky. I was sure that it wouldnt last forever. and low and behold. as soon as she no longer needed to be woken for her feedings, cuz she had gained back all of her weight...she was waking herself!
she eats approximately 22 hours a day. Many times she sleeps while she eats i think, but never if i put her down.
so today i took one of her few waking but not eating moments as an opportunity for her to show you how strong she is.
She has been holding her own head up since day 2!
Any day now and she'll be walking!

okay...i exaggerate. but i love her...come on!
here's a video from this afternoon.

Aunt Julie comes to visit!

It is such a blessing to have an aunt.
Julie is so in love with "her baby" Madeline.
She won't let us put her down in her crib because she
wants to hold her the whole time and that lets Mommy
sleep for more than an hour at a time!
Thanks Julie,
