update week 2.5

the ankle is continuing to turn many colors.

more curious about why it feels like a bone is out of place in my shin these days, and why the bruising is halfway up my leg. well.. will find out on thursday at the second ortho appt.

he should be able to tell if i need surgery by then.

in other news we had a wonderful week with shawn helping around the place. he was better at domestic help than i imagine any 14 year old boy to be. kudos and thanks.

we tried to make it worth his while. don taught him about investing at night, baked for him, at night when the kids went to sleep

this was at midnight. the boy had to learn his way around a kitchen while i stood by and gave directions when the kids finally went to sleep!

And we honored his request for tacos for dinner, the best bacon and sausage on Earth, klondike bars and a few movie nights too. ;)

so it couldnt have been all bad.

but it wasnt all watermelon and fun in the sun. He did it ALL from sweeping to cooking, lots of dishes, baby carrying, diapers- the works. well beyond the scope of the teenage boy sent to help.

Shawn even taught Bennett to say abracadabra this morning:

so we fed him a mighty breakfast and sent him on his way.

Bennett misses his grandma- you were not only a huge help to me but the kids had such a great time getting to spend QT with grandma. we love u

He cleans, he plays with kids, he puts together playrooms, he sweeps, he does dishes, makes sandwiches and feeds babies, tucks in and reads stories and yes, changes diapers.

This 14 y/o boy is an angel.

Help!

Thank goodness for Grandma Rose who rescued me last week. She must have done 100 loads of laundry, swept, cooked and ran around endlessly with the kids, brought me ice, water, phone –whatever. and put up with all my cra* about ‘this goes there’ and ‘please do it that way’.  Thank you for making the week so much more bearable for all of us. the kids and grownups here miss you!

crutches for mommy

So, not quite sure how to navigate this



but yeah, thats me.
Rock climbing injury tonight.
Now im on crutches and my ankle has a softball sticking out of the side of it.
feeling sort of overwhelmed at the prospect of being mom in our split level house tomorrow, unable to bear weight on it.

Summer Days 100 degrees

We stayed indoors today to beat the heat. (thankful that we have a kicking a/c and remembering years of hot hot nights on the second story in Northport- mom i know how bad it must be there this week!).

Here is how they kept busy (listen for bennett’s '”beep beep”)

Then late this afternoon, once the water ban was lifted (after roughly a month of no rain), i was able to run the sprinklers to do double duty/ watering the lawn and kids!

Then, below blondies are Emily and Sophie, our back neighbors. Madeline could not resist and finally stripped and ran in, followed by her friends!

They created a car wash, very clever.

ps: we had a 7/4 bbq and don made the most amazing bbq pork. best grilled anything i have ever eaten!

Madeline gets out of bed transcript

I got home from the climbing gym and madeline was in bed (the sitter tucked her in an hour prior but she always knows when i get home)

she got out of bed and i went to her room,
she said she wanted a sip of water
she drank it
'i drank it all'
me: good, now goodnight, i love you
(tuck in and go to door
'i love you too')
....
i get back to my room and she is out of bed again
....
"one more thing mommy
and i will tuck myself in after
but there's one thing
leaning on the wall
i didnt have a story tonight because i didnt want one
i just went straight. to. bed. (with the pointer finger shake)
-that was my thing
okay"

me: ok, thats fine, goodnight, i love you
